Rose Evans selected to finish out Wall-McDonald's Council term
Rose Evans became the fourth woman in 50 years to serve on the Tribal Council when she was appointed September 13 after three ballots to replace Teresa Wall-McDonald, who had resigned August 27 to take a job with the BIA Evans becomes Poison's second woman representative
Conducting something of a miniature primary election the Council voted
from a field of five declared candidates, then again on the top two vote-getters, with Evans coming out ahead in both. Pat Lefthand who is a former Elmo representative was the first runner-up.
Evan's first ballot hurdle was at the "straw vote" in Poison September 7 where she narrowly beat out Bob Fouty as the favorite candidate of the 70 or so Tribal members in attendance Only three people had declared themselves interested in the four-month-long job that day. Evans, Fouty and Anita Du-puis.
The straw vote results didn't appear to have much bearing on the CounciTs September 13 action however. Although some thought the Council would choose between Evans and Fouty, it was decided, after 30 minutes'
discussion about the appropriateness of the September 7 advisory vote that the eight Council members present last Friday would consider everyone who had expressed an interest in the job, not only the straw vote candidates.
Pat Lefthand had written a letter of interest late in August, and Robert Clairmont declared himself a hopeful at the September 13 meeting saying he had wanted to participate in the September 7 voting as a candidate but arrived an hour late due to confusion about the meeting's starting time
There was quite a bit of confusion about the September 7 advisory effort Some people thought the Council would be choosing only between that day's two top vote-getters. Others felt (Concludes on page three)

The Tribal Council voted 8-1 Aug 27 to require Tribal members wishing to continue receiving Reservation news to pay $10 to help offset the cost of producing the Tribal news
