Transcript	CHAR-KOOSTA Newspaper of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Indian Reservation THE COLDEST MONTH FEBRUARY 19, 1985 Proposed amendments enjoy a lot of hoopla While the publicity surrounding the proposed constitutional amendments may seem rather "11th hour" to some, it's enjoyed a wide audience since its inauguration last month by The name Char-Koosta is derived from Chief C ha No's and Chief Koostatah's names. They were the Tribes' last traditional chiefs._ X73- DO S i—- CD ^ =* 5? s1! en o o a & ¦< 3 O p er PS S o g CD CD CD a BIA election notice. The amendments and people's interpretations of what they mean have been the topic of many news stories, letters for and against them to many editors, 2300 letters from the BIA, uncounted Tribal Council meetings, one brief radio show, full-page advertisements, a Chamber of Commerce luncheon, and six district meetings. A report about the district meetings in Hot Springs, Pablo and St. Ignatius follows. First three of six district meetings are lively, if not SRO (*SR0" means Standing Room Only. The Constitution district meetings aren't packing them in the way last summer's Kerr Dam lease meetings did...) So far, a little less than 200 people have shown up at half of six district meetings to get a first-hand explanation of (turn to page 2) What a funny-looking paper. • • Yes, we know. What happened was our typesetting machine, the wise and wonderful Itek, pooped out -maybe for an uncomfortable amount of time, too. We won't know for awhile because we can't get a serviceman up here to the back of beyond for several days. What we have here is typesetting-by-word-processor. All we can say is it's better than a sharp stick in the eye. We ask for your indulgence in this our time of trouble. We hope to get back to our usual typestyles next issue, plus print some of the stories we had to pull this time. (It might not hurt, too, if once you read this, you clap your hands. It worked for Tinkerbell...)
