The public is being invited to present its views next month about the re-licensing of Kerr Dam.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will be accepting oral and written public comments on the license at public hearings in Kalis-pell July 9, and Pablo and Missoula July 10.
The Tribes are competing with the Montana Power Company (MPC) for "new license authority to operate the 180- megawatt Kerr Project for a 50-year term beginning May 23, 1980," notes a FERC news release MPC, the current licensee, now operates the project under an interim license
The Tribal public will have ample opportunity to testify at the hearings. Those in favor of the Tribes' application can sign a prewritten letter of support being circulated throughout the Reservation or write their own letter (see supplement in this issue). Transportation to and from one or more of the hearings is also being planned
Those wishing to present oral testimony will have to abide by the following rules:
• Statements should be limited to four minutes.
• Each speaker (or submitter of unsworn written testimony) will have to fill out a3 x 5 index card noting name address and organizational affiliation (if any). The cards will be given to the FERC staff at the hearings to use for
determining speaking order. The schedule is:
