Hunters cautioned to be aware of Tribal law
General Assistance payroll change
Family Assistance will be changing the payroll procedures for General Assistance clients.
Because of check cashing problems and the abundance of applications we will be trying a new system.
The first Wednesday of the first full week of each month will be a "carryover" only payroll, carry-over meaning approved for more than one month.
Besides that they will be running two payrolls a month, on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.
As the applications are approved they will go on the next possible payroll.
Getting the checks on Wednesday instead of Saturday will make it easier for clients to cash their General Assis-

Enforcement of Tribal hunting laws has taken a twist that has angered a number of people.
Ordinance 44B's first amendment says, in part, that Tribal members can't accompany or guide "non-members... for the purpose of hunting big game or upland birds on the Flathead Reservation".
While most Tribal members are conscientious about the law, many don't realize that having a non-member spouse sitting alone at a hunting camp can be interpreted as "accompanying".
This bit of news caused debate at a Council meeting last month, and at Arlee's October 12 district meeting, too.
Frank Acevedo, head of the Tribes' Fish and Game Conservation office, explained earlier to Char-Koosta that a Tribal member plus a non-member spouse plus a rifle all on Tribal property, such as the South Fork, constitutes "prima facie" evidence that Ordinance 44B, Section 1, paragraph d-- "accompanying and guiding ... is prohibited" -- has been violated
It doesn't matter if your spouse is holed up at camp with a paperback and isn't within a mile of wherever you shot anything. On first appearance, which is what the Latin phrase "prima facie"
