OF THE FLATHEAD INDIAN RESERVATION , WESTERN MONTANA
VOLUME 12 NUMBER 4 THE MONTH FOR CELEBRATION DANCES JULY 1, 1983
If you get bored this weekend, you're just not trying hard enough
Summer gets going in high gear this weekend with no less than ten events on tap across the Reservation.
The biggest, of course, is the Tribes' annual pow wow celebration in Arlee featuring dancers and drummers from the Pacific Northwest, a raffle, stick game tournament, card games, and arts and crafts displays. (Details, last page.)
Standing Arrow Pow Wow is July 14-17
This year's 5th annual Standing Arrow Pow Wow in Elmo will run from July 14th to the 17th.
Prize money will be awarded to the first three places in 14 categories, which include four age groups. Registration deadline is noon on the 16th. Contestants must register in person.
In addition to the dancing and drumming, there will be a men's Softball tournament and a rodeo. The 12-team tourney will result in three teams earning $400, $250 and $150. The entry fee is $100 per team; the registration deadline is July 13. The two-day rodeo starts at 6 p.m. on the 16th and 3 p.m. on the 17th. Admission is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children under 12.

An all-Indian rodeo is scheduled in Arlee, too, as is a bowling tournament. The town will also host its 23rd annual parade beginning at noon on July 4th.
The town of Charlo has its annual parade set for 1 p.m. on the 4 th. An all-school reunion there is also scheduled for the weekend.
The Joseph Hamel Memorial 3-on-3 Tournament takes place in St. Ignatius on July 1, 2, and 3. Call 675-8555 for details, or see the ad in our last issue.
Moving north, 1983's third quarterly Council meeting will be held in Pablo today (July 1) beginning at 9 am. July 1 is also an "admin, holiday"-Tribal offices will be closed.
A few miles up the road in Poison, the Rez's third parade on the 4th starts at 11. Several dozen powerboats will be tuning up their engines all weekend on the Flathead River for a combined regatta: Poison's Independence Day competition and the western region divisionals.

Tribal offices closed today and Monday
July 1 has been declared an administrative holiday for Tribal employees. The quarterly meeting set for today is still on, however.
Both Tribal and BIA offices will be closed July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
