MOON OF THE HARVEST OF RIPE THINGS VOLUME 9 NUMBER 10 PABLO, MONTANA 59855 SEPTEMBER 15,1979
It is indeed encouraging to see more and more attention being given every year to this occasion. Schools, communities, tribal groups and others are gradually becoming more involved in activities and ceremonies which capture the spirit of this much needed observance.
As you know, all great American leaders have been remembered for their contributions to this country by setting aside a day during each year to reflect on their achievement. Since this has not usually been done for our great Indian leaders, we feel that it is appropriate for all the people of Montana, on this day, to not only reflect on the achievements of all Indian leaders, but to give special recognition to the contributions of all Indian people to our great nation.

NATIVE AMERICAN DAY September 28,1979
On September 28, 1979, the state of Montana will observe once again Native American Day. This day was formally set aside by the 1975 Montana Legislature, which asked the Governor of Montana to designate the fourth Friday in September of every year for this occasion. The legislature also indicated that the people of Montana should be encouraged to participate in activities and ceremonies which are appropriate to the observance of this day. Please make a note of this day on your calendar as many Indian tribes, public schools and others are already making plans to celebrate the occasion.
