NEW MOON OF THE CAMAS
JUNE 1, 1979
ATTENTION
The next regular Council Meeting is scheduled for Friday, June 18th - at the Tribal Council Chambers. It will start at 9:00 a.m.
ARLEE POW-WOW
DATES ANNOUNCED
Clarence Woodcock, chairman of the local powwow committee, announces that this year's 81st Annual Flathead Reservation Pow-Wow will com-mense this month beginning with Camper's Day on Friday, June 29th, and run until 8 a.m., July 5th. This year's celebration will be dedicated to Christine Woodcock and Louise McDonald.
Preparations for the "big doings" began several weeks ago when Dixon's YACC crew workers took on the chore of shaping up the Arlee grounds. They've been enlarging the dance pavillion, planting trees and making general repairs. Hopefully, they will soon be setting up more bleachers, too.
Other pow-wow preparations include the distribution of raffle tickets and "promo" buttons. These are on sale at the Trading Post in Mission, and from Pow-Wow committee members Clarence Woodcock (Chairman), Francis Stanger (Co-chairman), Toni Hendrickson (Treasurer), and Delores Dumontier (Secretary), for $1.00 apiece. Program books will be ready for sale at a later date.
(Promo buttons, besides providing advertising the event, entitle the wearer to free admission to all five days of the pow-wow. Otherwise, an entrance fee will be charged each day at the gate for non-Indians. Tribal members can attend free of charge, of course).
A brief agenda of the up-coming festivities is given below, along with a current (as of our May 25th press-date) list of raffle prizes. In addition to those events on the agenda, gambling and food concessions will be set up, too, all run more-or-less by the same crews as last year.
For complete details about the celebration (camping and contest rules, etc.), consult last year's program book, or contact any member of the Pow-Wow committee. Persons interested in doing general work - selling tickets at the gate, for example-during the Pow-Wow's five days, should call Chairman Woodcock on week-days (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at 745-4572. (These workers will be compensated for their time, he adds.)
