KARATE TOURNAMENT
Tribal Ordinance 61 A (as revised) - Amendment No. 1, will be placed on the August 18th Council agenda for 3: p.m.
This Ordinance refers in part to the harvesting of wood products. Section 2-A reads as follows:
A- "Firewood may be taken without a permit by
Tribal members only from Tribal lands, for their
personal use". Section 3 - Paragraph II, Part A - 9 was amended
to read as follows:
9. - "The permittee's non-Tribal Member spouse is not allowed to participate in the harvesting of Forest products in the woods, regardless of whether the member spouse is present or not."
The Tribal Council is requesting that all concerned and affected persons, attend the Aug. 18th Council meeting to discuss Ordinance 61 A with them.
The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, in conjunction with the National Indian Karate Association, will sponsor an All Indian National Karate Tournament on September I6th and I7th.
The tournament will be held at the St. Ignatius Community Center both days, starting at 9:00 A.M.
All eligible Native Americans participating in the tournament, must be at least one fourth Indian and have some training and knowledge of the martial arts (karate). Two types of competition are scheduled. (1) - Kata form will be held first, followed by (2) - Ring competition form (fighting, soft contact). Entrance fees for participants is $5.00 per person.
The charge to the public will be $1.50 for adults and $.75 for children.

Councilman Tom Pablo from the Hot Springs District, was re-elected Chairman of the Montana Inter-Tribal Policy Board by acclamation, on Aug. 8th in Billings.
He has held four offices with the Board. From 2nd Vice-Chairman to 1st Vice-Chairman and twice elected by acclamation as Chairman .
Other elected officers are Bill Yellowtail from the Crow Reservation, 1st Vice-Chairman and Ivan Raining Bird from Rocky Boy, was elected 2nd Vice-Chairman. Don Bishop, Chartered Landless, was elected to the Secretary-Treasurer office.
Councilman Pablo informed the Char-Koosta of several other important events that have been scheduled.
The Inter-Tribal Policy Board will be bringing the Montana Indian Youth Practicum on the reservation at the end of the 1979 school term. It will be hosted by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
With Governor Thomas L. Judges's approval the Governors Conference is scheduled to be held on the reservation in August, 1979 and will also be hosted by the Tribe.
Governor Judge has delegated Councilman Pablo to represent him for the Governors' Inter-State Indian Council.
