Fred Houle Jr. Appointed YACC Director
On Feb. 17th, the Tribal Council voted to select former Tribal Secretary, Fred Houle Jr., for Director for the Young Adult Conservation Corps now in the process of being established on the Reservation.
Five applicants were screened from twenty persons applying for the position, before the final selection by the Tribal Council.
The Young-Adult Conservation Corps will consist of 100 young adults between the ages of 16 to 23 years, who are unemployed. These young adults will be working on conservation projects on a one year basis. Selectivity of young applicants will be through the Job Service Office in Poison. The actual hiring will be done by the Camp Director.
Arlee Man Killed In Head-On Collision
Raymond D. Matt, 26, Arlee, was killed early Wednesday when the pickup truck he was driving collided head-on with a semi-trailer truck about five miles west of Huson on Interstate 90, the Montana Highway Patrol reported.
Robert Risenaur, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, driver of the semi rig, escaped injury. He told authorities that the pickup crossed the center line into the path of his truck.
The accident occurred about 2:40 a.m. on a bridge on Nine-Mile Hill.
Mr Matt was born Sept. 21, 1951, in St. Ignatius. He attended schools in Arlee and was graduated from Arlee High School. He attended the University of Montana and Western Montana College.
He married Christine Smith in Idaho in 1970 and was a construction worker in the Arlee area until his death.
Surivivors include his wife; two sons, Christian and Peter, both at home in Arlee; his mother, Angeline, Perma; three brothers, Wendell, Yakima, Wash.; Ronald, Denver, Colo., and Curtis, Arlee; a sister, Shannon, Perma; and several nieces and nephews.
