CHEMAWA REMAINS OPEN
Several weeks ago we reported that the Chemawa Indian School was in danger of closing it's doors for good. We are happy |0 report now that the Bureau of Indian Affairs has allocated $23,million for con ^ruction of new campus facilities. \ Temporary modular buildings are now ¦ider construction to house the school while the permanent buildings are being erected. The Project will be finished by kte 1978.
* Chemawa Administration members
said that the school will function as usual this coming term, and they will have housing for 125 boys and 125 girls in the temporary units. . ^
The Tribal Council, along with Councils of many other reservations, passed a resolution of support for the Chemawa School at their June 2 meeting. The over whelming support of Reservations throughout the U.S. is said to have placed enough pressure on the Bureau to continue the Indian School in Salem, Oregon.
Council Meetings
The next Tribal Council meeting will be held August 6th at the Tribal Council Chambers in Dixon. If you wish to speak with the Council in this day, please con? tact Secretary Fred Houle at 246-3595 before August 5th, and he will set a time for you on the meeting agenda.
Attendence at the Council meetings has been very poor. If you wish to observe your Tribal Government in action, the Council urges you to attend.
Quarterly meetings are especially important for your attendence. The next quarterly meeting will be held Friday, October 1st, in the Dixon Agency gymnasium.

Senior Citizens Need Help
Volunteers are desperately needed to cook and give rides for the Senior Citizens dinners. According to Sharon Rasmussen of Native American Programs it is also hoped that some form of entertainment and social activity will be able to be included in the future. The noon-time meals are free to those 45 and up, with a reasonable donation requested from others. The hot meals will be delivered to those unable to attend. Those wishing to volunteer or those in need of rides should contact the staff at 745-4500 in the St. Ignatius Community Center. The noon meals are served in Arlee on Monday Thursday at the Catholic Church, in St. Ignatius, Wednesdays at the Community Center in Elmo Tuesdays and Fridays at Koostahtah Hall, in Hot Springs Tuesdays at the Senior Citizens building, and in Ronan at the old thrift building.
