It was part of the glue that held Indian families and society together. Now, for the first time, a comprehensive exhibit of art depicting these tales has been organized and is on display in Pblsnn at the Art Gallery downtown until November 7. The exhibit show 28 pen and ink drawings of "Coyote Tali"; of the Montana Salish." Yourig Salish artist Frederick Ernest Roullier has depicted scenes from Salish Coyote tales told by the blind Indian sage; Pierre Pichette. "This is the most valuable show we've had in our gallery and we'd like to have" a lot of people come and see it" says Poison Art Gallery's Chairman Doris Buss. ( continued on page 3) INDIAN BUSINESS GRANTS The second year of the Indian Business Development Proe, ram Part HO- referring to nonreimbursable grants has been recently announced. There has however, been much misunderstanding of the program. First, it is not. an outright grant of 50,000 dollars The rules and regulations governing thr program state that a grant may be issued for 40% of the total" cost of a project has reached the 50,000 dollar amount,.no more grants will he made to that particular project. Secondly, all legal businesses can qualify for the tyrant. This means that agricultural programs (cattle farming, etc ) also meet the definition as a business. Certain requirements must be met in order to qualify for a grant Those requirements are listed as follows: 1. S Depar t ment of Intel ¡01 That offi( e felt that several parts of the wotdinq were unclear enough to warrant it's rejection The Tribe is currently operating under the original 1935 Constitution, which will be in effect for the upcoming elections. The pro posed revision would have been subject to a referen-dum vote for adoption if it had been approved by Thompson. A 10 man committee had completed the proposed Constitutional draft with revisions in April, 1974 The proposed draft vould make most of it's changes to election procedures, incorporating changes in pro cedute to file for Candida- CANDIDATES FILE cy, primary elections, district reappor honment. and election of a Tribal Chairman and Vice Chail man. It also included shot ten-ing terms for the entire Council from four years to two years, eliminating any continuity of Council members, since all of them would be elected concurrently. Another provision would allow persons objecting to a Council action to stop them by appeal for 60 days, with another 30 day halt while awaiting appeal on any new deci sion. The Council now has four options: 1. Modify the draft themselves to meet objections 2. Drop the proposed re visions 3.
