College's anniversary-and-culture celebration spread over two towns
PABLO — Salish Kootenai College's 11th anniversary will share billing with the school's annual Culture Day observance this Friday (Nov. 4), beginning at 10 a.m. on the campus here.
The day will end in Ronan with a pow wow featuring inter-Tribal andcontest dancing.
It all begins with a large variety of cultural activities in the morning: Meat-
drying, beading and quillwork, drumming and singing, TPR language lessons in both Kootenai and Salish, displays from the Reservation's schools, and sales of Native American crafts and art.
At noon, a noveau-traditional lunch of Indian tacos, chili, stew and frybread will be for sale in the lounge of the Michel Building.
The afternoon's activities, also in the Michel Building, will begin at 1 p.m. and include speakers, a demonstration, and a panel discussion on the subject of "Native Language and its Relationship to the Culture".
Later, around 3 p.m., stickgames, tepee setting-up, more TPR lessons, and
film showings will commence.
The action moves to the Ronan Community Center around 5, with a feast, dress review, and a pow wow (grand entry at 7:30, although there will be some warm-up dancing as soon as the drums set up). Highlight of the evening will be the honoring of "a very special person", whose identity is secret, evidently, until then.
The Reservation public is encouraged to stop by Pablo and Ronan to get a close look at some of the features of Indian life today. Not counting the arts-and-crafts sales and the taco lunch, it's all free.

No Council meetings next week
Tribal Chairman Mickey Pablo announced last week that there won't be any Council meetings on either next Tuesday or Friday. Tuesday the 8th is Election Day, he explained, and Friday is Veterans Day, a holiday and day off for Tribal employees. The regular schedule will resume the week of Nov. 14.

The THD Alcohol Program is still trying to give away $250 to one of the people who answered an evaluation questionnaire sent out earlier this year. The third survey number to be chosen is:
