800 expected at Celebration of Sobriety this weekend in Arlee
As the pow wow season gets underway —the big doings in Arlee and Elmo are coming up in July — the Tribal Alcohol Program plans to throw its annual Celebration of Sobriety this weekend, June 24 and 25, at the Arlee pow wow grounds.
"We have this gathering every year as a time for families to be together without alcohol and drugs before the

pow wow season gets them all too busy," program director Anna Whiting-Sorrell explains.
"It's also a 'thank you' to everyone who's helped us out throughout the previous year, and a 'thanks' for everyone who's stayed sober. We want to recognize those who have endured."
Here's the agenda for the free, open to all, two-day gathering:
FRIDAY, June 24: 4 p.m. — Drumming and singing musical chair game; 8 p.m. to midnight — Teen dance, with music provided by the Rapid Transit Road Show. There will also be pinochle and cribbage games going on throughout the evening, tournament-style.
SATURDAY, June 25: 8 a.m. — Registration for the Run for Sobriety, which will begin at 9 a.m.; 11 a.m. —
Watermelon feast and baseball game;
Noon — Sobriety Olympics, with frisbee throw, ameba tag, 100-yard dash, 50-yard dash, sack race and other similar events; 1 p.m. — Volleyball tournament for youths; 2 p.m. — Volleyball tourney for adults, and a stick game tourney for youths; 4 p.m.—Tug-of-War for adults and youths; 5 p.m. — Dinner, provided by the Tribal Health Dept. Alcohol Program.
