              Annual elder-honoring celebration moves up north this year
The annual Two Eagle River School honoring-our-elders week observance is coming up May 12 - 14 at Koostatah Hall in Elmo.
The event this year is being co-sponsored by the Alex Lefthand family and is in honor of his retirement as lead singer, notes the publicity poster.
Among the special events being hosted by the Two Eagle River School are meat-drying demonstrations, pres-
entations on Tribal history and traditional culture and boat tours.
Some events will be held at the Elmo pow wow grounds, such as the pow wow May 14 if the weather cooperates. A feed is scheduled at Koostatah Hall at 1:00 p.m., with traditional dancing at 3:00 p.m.
The celebration in years past have
been at Sloan's Bridge, west of Ronan, and at the school in Dixon.
The Reservation public is invited to attend, and all drummers and dancers are encouraged to participate in this special occasion.

Fishing regulation change proposed; hearing May 9

The Tribes are proposing a change in the fishing regulations, to open the Flathead River from Kerr Dam to the Reservation boundary to year-round fishing. Under the current regulations, the river is open to fishing from the third Saturday in May until November 30th, with an extended whitefish season from December 1 to March 31.
If adopted, the new regulation would open the river to allow harvest of pike
and largemouth bass during the winter and spring seasons. The special harvest restrictions on trout and pike would remain unchanged.
A public hearing will be held May 9, 1988, at 7:00, in the Tribal Council Chambers at the Tribal Complex in Pablo. Any interested person may submit comment on the regulation at the hearing or may submit written comment (See the notice on page two.)
Bitter root season officially opens
"The bitter root is ready for picking," says the Flathead Culture Committee, so they've scheduled the annual bitter root feast for this Friday, April 29, at the St. Ignatius Longhouse. They will be taking a van to the picking site at 8:30 a.m. and invite everyone to come along. When the group returns, and the bitter root and other traditional foods are prepared, the feast will begin. So pack up your appetite and join in on the opening of the bitter root harvest.
