Recount of ballots puts Arlee incumbent on top
Three new faces will be added to the Council in 1988
After the dust settled from the general election vote-canvassing, Dec. 17, only eight votes separated Arlee incumbent Louie Adams and challenger Hank Baylor — Adams was victorious at the end of a neck-and-neck race for the four-year Tribal Council term in the Arlee District.
Preliminary election reports, made before the 126 contested and absentee ballots were counted, showed Baylor
leading the race with 16 votes.
Other leaders who were reported after the first count gained the majority of the absentee and contested votes, thus leaving their already-comfortable leads essentially unchanged.
The official count follows:
ARLEE (four-year term): Louie Adams, 469; Hank Baylor, 461.
ARLEE (two-year term): Floyd Ni-colai, 608; John E. Malatare, 310.
DIXON: E. Sonny Morigeau, 541; Rio Liberty, 391.
HOT SPRINGS: Mickey Pablo,
719; Leroy O'Bennick, 204.
PABLO: Lloyd D. Irvine, 524; Vic Stinger, 411.
ST. IGNATIUS: Joseph "Joe Dog" Felsman, 507; Ron Therriault, 427.
The winners will take their positions January 1,1988, when they are swom in at the first quarterly meeting of the New Year. (Floyd Nicolai, who was appointed by the Council after being selected by the membership, was sworn-in Dec. 18, at the regular Tribal Council meeting.)

Don't forget to make time amid your New Year's festivities for the first quarterly meeting of 1988, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 1,1988, at Tribal headquarters in Pablo.
The Tribal Constitution requires that quarterly meetings take place on the first Friday of January, April, July and October, regardless of any holidays that may
also share those days.
The January 1988 meeting will begin around 9-9:30 a.m. in the Tribal Council's chambers. Of particular interest that day will be the swearing-in ceremony for the winners of the 1987 election, plus the election of a chairman from among the ten Council members and the selection of a Sergean tat- Arms.
No newsletter next week —
Due to the shortened work-week—Tribal employees have been given both Dec. 24 and 25 off — we won't be publishing a Dec. 30 issue. See you in the New Year!
