Chief Charlo of the Salish VOLUME 16, NUMBER 27
THE STORYTELLING MONTH
Chief Koostatah of the Kootenai NOVEMBER 18, 1987
Forgot to vote? It would have counted —
Hamel and Irvine tie in Pablo; run-off election set for Nov. 25
Certification of the Nov. 7 Tribal primary ballots took two days last week, thanks to a tie vote for second place in the Pablo district
And thanks to that tie, a special runoff election has been called for next Wednesday, Nov. 25 — see the official notice on this issue's back page.
Lloyd Irvine, who works at Two Eagle River School, and Catherine
Mathias Hamel, a community health nurse for Tribal Health, each garnered a total of 201 votes after 120 absentee and contested ballots were counted Nov. 11 and 12 in Pablo. The two will face off to see who will challenge four-termer Vic Stinger in the Dec. 12 general election. (Please see page four for campaign statements.)
With all the votes counted, three of five incumbents ended up with comfortable almost 2-to-l margins over the next-closest competitor. The count in St. Ignatius was the tightest, with incumbent Ron Therriault only 43 votes ahead of former Council member Joe Felsman. In Pablo, Stinger was only 77 votes ahead of the two second-placers.
Here's the final certified count (names in bold will be on the December

Power division hearing is set for Friday
The Tribes and the Joint Board of Control will again be providing testimony in District Court on the management of the FIIP Power Division on Friday, Nov. 20, at the Missoula County Courthouse.
The hearing will begin at 1:30 p.m. Although no decision will be made on the matter that day, this will be an opportunity for the Tribal membership to offer physical support and to get a first-hand look at the federal court system at work.
If anyone is interested in attending and needs transportation, contact Greg DuMontier at the Tribal Complex or call 675-2700, ext. 420.
