SKHA wins national excellence award
The Salish-Kootenai Housing Authority is one of two Indian housing authorities in HUD's Denver Region VIII to win a national "sustained excellence" award this year.
SKHA director Bob Gauthier accepted the award at the Native American Indian Conference held June 14-17 in Reno, Nevada (see photo).

Arlee man cast in 'War Party'

Perry Lilly, Sr., an Assiniboine-Soiux originally from Fort Peck, has landed a part in the upcoming motion picture about contemporary Native Americans - War Party.
War Party casting director Lora Kennedy says Lilly and three men from Los Angeles will portray a group of young men who are wrongly accused of a crime and are forced into exile in order to prove their innocence.
The two main characters will be played by Billy Wirth (one-fourth Cherokee) and Kevin Dillon (also appearing in Platoon"). Lilly and Tim
Sampson (son of the late Will Sampson) will play secondary parts. "They'll be part of the gang," said Kennedy.
Shooting will take place in the Browning/Cut Bank area from Aug. 6 through Oct. 10, says Kennedy. Because there is so much action and such large scenes, she says the filming area will be limited to production staff only.
Kennedy says they will be picking up extra, non-speaking parts from the Blackfeet Reservation. Some scenes call for more than 500 people, she said.
