Petitioners want smaller Tribal Council, big individual pay-out
Summer is ending on a busy note for two groups of unoriginal petition-bearing folks on the Flathead -"unoriginal" because the petitions concern proposals that have already failed at least once.
One petition, the second attempt in as many years at reducing the Tribal Council from ten to five members, was submitted to the BIA for approval on August 1.

While it evidently contained a little more than the necessary 30% of Tribal voters' signatures, some 300 of those signatures have been challenged by Arlee Council member Jim Steele as being duplicates, incomplete or belonging to off-Reservation members.

'SKC PTV Project' seeks directors
Applications for a board of directors for the Salish Kootenai College public television project are now being accepted, according to Frank Tyro, SKC's media center director. "A five-member board will oversee the direction of the project," said Tyro.
SKC recently received a grant that could provide up to $145,000 to bring public television to the central area of the Flathead Reservation.
Responsibilities of the board include fund-raising, programming direction and overall authority on the project Four positions are open on the board: two members will be Native American and two non-Indian. The directors will be appointed by the college board of trustees, Tyro said.
Interested parties should submit a letter of interest and a brief outline of what he or she has to offer public broadcasting in the area.
"We are looking for a good cross-section of the population. No experience is necessary," Tyro said. "We
mainly want people who are committed to the idea and can offer help and direction."
Letters should be submitted to the SKC PTV Project, Box 117, Pablo 59855 (see the ad on page 26).
Informational meetings have been set for: SepL 15, St. Ignatius Community Center, 7 p.m.; and SepL 17, Ronan Community Center, 7 p.m.
