Tribes to invest in $5.5 million convention center, $600,000 sawmill
PABLO - April 18 may go down in the history books as having been a banner day for economic development on the Flathead Reservation.
That's the day the Council approved "in concept" a hotel-convention center on Koss Landing in Poison.
Farther south, the Flathead Post and Pole Yard in Dixon is looking forward to $600,000 shot in the arm in the form of a

The Koss project, which could go into construction next fall, is a $5.5 million idea involving the Tribes, a Pol-son bank, and a KaUspeU businessman.
Preliminary plans call for a 110-room resort-convention center that will include a restaurant, a lounge, and
two swimming pools, one of which will be open to the community. Between 48 and 60 jobs could be created.
Although nothing's been committed to paper and signatures yet, early indications are that the Tribes will contribute six acres of lakeshore property and receive a controlling interest in the business and most of its projected (Concludes on page two)

Tribes offers free curriculum, training
RONAN - All school districts on the Reservation were offered an alcohol and drug abuse prevention program, with materials and training to be provided by the Tribal Health Department's Alcohol Program (THD-AP). An invitation was extended to the school districts to participate in a Reservation-wide program
In 1984, two Reservation school districts, Ariee and St Ignatius, were given grants of money to develop prevention programs. The districts took different approaches. "We've teamed from the two districts,'' Anna Whiting, THD-AP director, said "We learned that commu-
nities can effectivery take responsibility for chemical abuse prevention, with a little outside support Our dilemma is figuring out how to maintain the St Ignatius and Ariee programs, and at the same time offer assistance to the other communities.''
To address this concern, the THD-AP is making art offer to provide the "Here's Looking at You, 2000" K-12 prevention curriculum, as well as training.
"Both the curriculum and training are very costry," Whiting said, "but they're the best available!''
