VOLUME 14 NUMBER 11
Council election season begins: Primary sign-up deadline is Oct 24
Toying with the idea of running for the Tribal Council? You have about three weeks left to decide for sure: The deadline for filing for the primary election will be Thursday, Oct 24, at 430 p.m.
An election committee made up of those Council members not up for reelection, and Executive Secretary Joe
Dupuis, met last week to discuss dates and procedure changes, such as whether or not to assess a filing fee this year.
While the dates for the primary and general elections were easily set, thanks to constitutional guidelines, the recommended policy changes were scheduled to be discussed by the full Council SepL 27 (the day this issue was due to be in the darkroom, so we're unable to publish the results).
This year's primary balloting will be on Saturday, Nov. 9. The top ten winners' names will then appear on the general election ballot Saturday, Dec. 14, along with any referendum issues.
An official election notice outlining polling places and eligibility requirements for candidates will be published in local papers and in the Oct 17 Char-Koosta News.
Up for re-election this year are Jim Steele (Arlee), Joe Felsman (St Ignatius), Bob McCrea (Ronan), Al Hewan-korn (Elmo-Dayton), and the Poison seat, temporarily (perhaps) filled by Rose Evans.
Candidates interested in doing some campaigning in the Tribal newspaper are asked to pay close attention to the policy guidelines on page two.

After discussing the pros and cons of the idea — letting non-members clean up slash for a fee -- the Council voted unanimously to set up a non-member fuel wood cutting permit
program with very strict guidelines.
This year, the program will be in effect from Sept 23 to Oct 25, on the 2500 Road in the Boulder Logging Unit east of Flathead Lake only. Other areas and seasons may be announced at the Council's discretioa

GA to do payroll twice monthly
Due to FY86 budget cutbacks, the Family Assistance Division's General Assistance Program will be making only two payrolls a month, effective Oct 1,1985. Checks will be issued during the first and third weeks of each month.
