WINNOW
procedures
and
computer
programs
for
simulating
and
selecting
one
best
silvicultural/managerial
all-aged
prescription
from
many
alternatives
is
described
. The
selection
basis
may
be
sustained
annual
volume
or
value
productivity
measures
. An
economic
case
study
evaluates
constrained
prescription
alternatives
for a
stand
of
ponderosa
pine
on a
Douglas-fir/
pinegrass
habitat
type
in
central
Idaho
.
Maximum
land
(soil)
expectation
value
,
based
on a
new
formula
for
all-aged
stands
,
is
the
decision
criterion
. The
selected
prescription
shows
potential
increases
in
cubic
volume
productivity
of
30
percent
, in
merchantable
productivity
100
percent
, and in
value
productivity
400
percent
.
Trade-offs
for
prescriptions
with
increased
water
yield
or
increased
big
game
hiding
cover
are
compared
.
