forests
was
assessed
through
radial
increment
analyses
of
cores
extracted
at
diameter
breast
height
. A
growth
function
,
defined
as the
cumulative
sum
of
squared
mean
annual
radial
increment
, was
graphically
compared
between
WSBW
host
(Douglas-fir)
and
nonhost
(ponderosa
pine
[Pinus
ponderosa
Laws.])
trees
.
Negative
inflections
of
host
radial
growth
curves
relative
to
nonhost
indicated
WSBW
activity
; these
inflections
were
quantified
and
transformed
to a
severity
index
that
represents
the
intensity
of the
WSBW
activity
. A
hazard
index
may
reflect
effects
of
WSBW
activity
to
regeneration
probability
.
Acceleration
of
nonhost
ponderosa
pine
radial
growth
during
WSBW
activity
in
mixed
Douglas-fir
stands
was
observed
.
