Description	The Wilderness Act of 1964 established a National Wilderness Preservation System, and this publication is a compilation of selected information about every wilderness within the System. For each wilderness, the following information is given: legally correct wilderness name; public law that established the wilderness; date the enabling law was signed by the President; acreage designated in the enabling public law; modifying public law or laws that affected the name, boundary, or administration; current acreage reported by the administering agency, the agency or agencies with current administrative authority; administering units within the agency; State or States in which the wilderness is located. The information is arranged in nine different tables, each arranged and sorted in different ways to allow the reader to easily find the desired information. Based on the data in this publication, various trends in wilderness from 1964 through the middle of 1998 are described. An appendix of public laws establishing or modifying wilderness is included.
