Description	The author categorizes forest vegetation across Montana into eight geographic subdivisions called "forest regions. M The regions correlate the influence of climate and general topography to forest vegetation—including the distributions of tree and undergrowth species and forest habitat types. The vertical zonation of forest series (based on the potential climax tree species) also differs from one region to the next. Regional boundaries were fitted to distributions of certain tree and undergrowth species, habitat types, and natural climatic barriers such as the Continential Divide and broad grassland valleys that separate forest environments.
