Metcalf Campaign Kick Off • Stevensville • S~ptember 8, 1966
Lee, the best of ll~c!( and my personal good wishes on the occasion
of your kick•off campaign for reelection to the United States Senate . I'm
only sorry that my Senate leadership reoponaibilities make it impossible for
me to be in Stevensville today with our good friends in the Bitterroot Valley.
Our political and personal association over the years has been most valued .
You have worked hard and succeeded in giving the people of Montana the
representation they deserve. As a Representative and then Senator from
Hontana you have acl1ieved a reputation of being an alert , capable and
intelligent legislator. You have developed an expertise in many areas •
conservation, education, finance, resource development and just plain
service. l1ont~na will shm~ sound judg1ment in returning you to the United
States 5enate for another six-yea~ term. The adjournment of Congress is
still several \veeks away • but I uant you and the people of Montana to
kno\v that I will be in the State as soon as possible , campaigning hard,
in 56 counties/for your reelection and the entire Democratic slate.
