The Mansfield Library is pleased to announce our recently drafted diversity plan. This plan was developed in accordance with UM’s Institutional Diversity Plan, particularly Action Item 1.1.2 which states:
“Create at the college and school levels, the executive office level, and in subunits as appropriate and practicable, diversity action plans and annually report on progress toward meeting diversity goals.”
The Library’s Core Principle on Diversity states that:
“The Mansfield Libraries support The University of Montana’s strong commitment to creating a vibrant and welcoming culture that expects and respects diversity. Our patron base includes the students, faculty, and staff at UM as well as community members of all backgrounds. We support diversity through our collections, services, instruction, and physical and virtual environments in recognition of our unique responsibility to and long history of upholding equal access, intellectual freedom, and freedom of expression.”
The Library Diversity Plan includes seven strategic choices covering diversity in the following areas: collections; services and programming; instruction and outreach; physical environment; virtual environment; hiring and training; and overall library performance. This plan was informed by our Diversity Core Principle and will help ensure that attention to diversity helps guide the library in decisions related to the strategic choices above.
You can find the Diversity Plan on the A-Z Directory of the library website. Please feel free to contact Julie Biando Edwards, Ethnic Studies Librarian (firstname.lastname@example.org), with questions or comments.
