Cobell Case Settled

10 December 2009 by Julie Biando Edwards

This week the class action lawsuit brought by Elouise Cobell (Blackfeet) and others against the United States government ended in a settlement that will provide billions of dollars in funds and establish an Indian Education Scholarship fund to improve access to higher education.

You can research the documentary and social history and the outcome of this case using many of our library databases, including Academic Search Premier, Ethnic NewsWatch, and American Indian Experience.  You can also link to the following site for more information http://www.cobellsettlement.com/. All of these resources, and more, can be found under the Native American Subject Databases list at the Mansfield Library.

Please contact Julie Biando Edwards at julie.edwards@umontana.edu or 243-4505 for research help.

Thanks for posting the information and links to the Cobell settlement Web site. This is an important case for people to understand since it involves the ongoing management of millions of acres of Indian land across the United States.
