This set is located in Archives and Special Collections (Call number: 786.2 T485e) and was a generous gift to the Mansfield Library by State Senator Dan Weinberg.
Archives and Special Collections at the Mansfield Library now has a set of artwork and music in an edition entitled Eighteen Portraits created by the American artist, Maurice Grosser (1903-1986), and American composer, Virgil Thomson (1896-1989).This set is a lithographed reproduction of the original charcoal drawings and musical portraits of Grosser and Thomson’s mutual friends. While this edition was created in 1985, the original visual and musical portraits were completed from 1929-1985. Both artist and composer signed this edition. Virgil Thomson and Maurice Grosser were friends for over sixty years. This set of portraits and music is their third collaborative work. Previously, Grosser created the scenarios for Thomson’s operas The Four Saints, and The Mother of Us All.
