New e-book and audiobook service: Overdrive

31 October 2011 by Samantha Hines

Mansfield Library now has a subscription to Overdrive, a service which provides e-books and audiobooks in a downloadable form for library users.  Our collection is focused on academic literature and items related to fields of study at UM so it varies from the version of Overdrive available at Missoula Public Library.  Materials can be ‘checked out’ for up to two weeks and used with a variety of devices, from iPods and iPads to Kindles, Nooks, Android phones, and desktop/laptop computers.

To take a look at the new service, visit http://etexts.lib.umt.edu/ or find Overdrive on our A-Z list of resources.  Items should also begin appearing in the library catalog shortly, along with our other ebook materials, and be accessible in that way.

For help getting started using the service with your personal devices, click on the maroon “help” button on the right side of the screen.  If you have purchase suggestions, please get in touch with your liaison librarian or leave a comment on this post.

    Hi,

I wanted to verify if this service is free to regular UM students. I grabbed an audiobook from overdrive on my android device and am worried that I will be charged for it.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Matt,

It should be completely free. If you get any strange messages or are asked for payment information please let us know. Thanks!
